Premier League Weekend Results
The latest round of Premier League action has taken place with the relegation battle, European places and title all coming closer to being decided. Let’s take a look at all the action from the weekend.
Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
Chelsea took the lead at Brentford in the 35th minute through Nicolas Jackson. It would take until the 50th minute for Brentford to equalise and Wissa to give Brentford the lead in the 69th minute with an incredible overhead kick. Alex Disasi would earn a point for Chelsea who remain in 11th spot with Brentford moving up to 15th spot.
Everton 1-3 West Ham United
Everton had risen up the table this weekend after they were given 4 points back following their appeal regarding the Profitability and Sustainability charges that the Premier League had imposed on them. Things were looking even better when they took the lead at Goodison through Gomes in the 56th minute. West ham would equalise shortly after in the 62nd minute and go on to score 2 very late goals in the 91st and 95th minute to take all 3 points. The Hammers have moved up to 7th place and are right in the hunt for a Europa League place.
Fulham 3-0 Brighton & Hove Albion
Fulham remained in 12th position after a 3-0 win over Brighton. Goals from Wilson (21′), Muniz Carvalho (32′) and Traore (90’+1) earned all 3 points for Fulham at Craven Cottage. Brighton dropped to 9th spot, suffering a big blow to their European hopes for next season.
Newcastle United 3-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Newcastle United jumped to 8th position in the table after their 3-0 win over in-form Wolves. Goals from Isak, Gordon and Livramento secured the 3 points for The Magpies who are now fighting to be in with a chance of playing in Europe next year. Wolves are only 4 points off 7th and will also want to stake a claim for European football next season.
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool
Liverpool kept their title hopes alive with a late winner away at Forest. Darwin Nunez came off the bench to secure all 3 points for The Reds in the 99th minute. Liverpool had gone 4 points clear at the top until the Manchester derby took place on Sunday. Nottingham Forest sit in 17th place, just 4 points ahead of 18th place Luton and awaiting the Profitability and Sustainability charge from the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Crystal Palace
Tottenham are still in the fight for the Champions League places after their 3-1 win against Palace. Eze of Palace opened the scoring on the 59th minute but Spurs would come back with goals from Werner, Romero and Son to win the game. Tottenham are in 5th place, 5 points behind Aston Villa with a game in hand. Crystal Palace are 8 points away from the drop zone in 14th.
Luton Town 2-3 Aston Villa
Luton looked to have accomplished a superb fightback in their game against Villa at the weekend. Aston Villa went 2 goals ahead through a brace from Ollie Watkins. Luton were able to get the game back to 2-2 with goals from Chong and Morris. A late goal from Digne in the 89th minute rescued all 3 points for Villa, who are taking hold of 4th spot. Luton are now 4 points from safety with a game in hand.
Burnley 0-2 Bournemouth
Bournemouth are now looking safe from relegation after a 2-0 win away to Burnley. Kluivert and Semenyo sealed the victory for The Cherries, sending them to 13th place. Burnley look to be all but relegated in 19th position and 11 points from safety.
Manchester City 3-1 Manchester United
United took a shock lead in the derby after 8 minutes with an incredible strike from Marcus Rashford after City had dominated a lot of the game. It would take until the 56th minute for City’s domination to show after yet another brilliant goal from Phil Foden. Manchester City would take the lead in the 80th minute through Foden again, before Haaland put the game to bed in the 91st minute. City are now just 1 point behind leaders Liverpool with Manchester United sitting in 6th and looking like a Champions League spot is out of their grasp.
